[Remote] AVP-Revenue Cycle Back End
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Ascension is a leading non-profit, faith-based national health system made up of over 134,000 associates and 2,600 sites of care. The Associate Vice President (AVP) of Back-End Revenue Cycle is responsible for overseeing all hospital system back-end revenue cycle operations, ensuring accountability for vendor performance and driving innovation and performance improvement across the outsourced revenue cycle model.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary executive liaison between the health system and the outsourced RCM vendor for all back-end revenue cycle functions.
- Develop and enforce performance scorecards, service-level agreements (SLAs), and key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Lead monthly and quarterly business reviews with vendor leadership, escalating issues and driving resolution of operational gaps.
- Ensure vendor compliance with health system policies, payer contract terms, and state/federal regulations.
- Oversee the performance of billing, follow-up, denials, underpayments, self-pay collections, and cash posting across the enterprise.
- Monitor accounts receivable (A/R) trends, denial rates, and cash performance, ensuring corrective action plans are executed by the vendor.
- Collaborate with patient access, coding, clinical documentation improvement, and finance teams to address upstream and systemic revenue cycle issues.
- Implement and oversee controls to safeguard against revenue leakage and mitigate compliance risks.
- Partner with system CFOs and Finance leadership to align RCM operations with financial targets.
- Translate operational metrics into CFO-level reporting, highlighting risks, opportunities, and strategic initiatives.
- Support revenue forecasting, net-to-gross analytics, and cash flow optimization.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to maximize yield from payer contracts and strengthen denial prevention.
- Serve as a thought partner to system leadership in evolving the outsourcing model, including governance structures, technology integration, and vendor accountability.
- Identify and implement best practices in revenue cycle operations and outsourced vendor management.
- Provide leadership during system transformations, such as ERP or EHR implementations, payer policy shifts, and new regulatory requirements.
- Champion patient-centered revenue cycle practices that enhance the financial experience and protect the system’s reputation.
Skills
- Associate's degree/Bachelor's degree with 7 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required, with 4 of those years being in leadership/management.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Healthcare Administration, or related field required.
- Finance Professional specializing in Revenue Cycle preferred.
- Licensed Reimbursement Spclst credentialed from the Healthcare Financial Management Association preferred.
- Master’s degree preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in hospital revenue cycle leadership, with at least 5 years in a large, complex health system.
- Proven experience managing outsourced revenue cycle vendors, including governance, SLAs, and performance scorecards.
- Strong knowledge of hospital and physician back-end revenue cycle operations, payer reimbursement methodologies, and denial management.
- Demonstrated success in improving revenue cycle KPIs (A/R days, cash collections, denial overturn rates, cost-to-collect, etc.).
- Excellent leadership and vendor management skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with executives, clinical leaders, and vendor partners.
