[Remote] Copy Editor, Science

Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Amplify is a pioneer in K–12 education, leading the way in next-generation curriculum and assessment. They are seeking a Copy Editor, Science to review and improve science curricula and materials, ensuring grammatical correctness and clarity while collaborating with various teams.


Responsibilities

  • Copy edit and proofread curricula and other relevant materials (both print and digital components) to ensure material is grammatically correct, cohesive, and concise.
  • Collaborate with writers to understand their intended meaning and improve on the clarity of text.
  • Identify inconsistent or unsuitable (e.g., too complex for the grade level) content and raise those and any other content concerns for resolve.
  • Check the accuracy of details such as page references and material/resource references.
  • Align all text to reflect in-house styles and guidelines.
  • Alert manager of any editorial questions and help to facilitate the decision-making process.
  • Ensure that deliverables are on time and team documentation is kept up to date (e.g., tracking sheets).
  • Assist with development of the style guide and other documentation in collaboration with manager and team, as assigned.
  • Actively engage in daily team stand-ups.

Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 4+ years of copy editing experience with a track record of producing clean documents on time
  • Experience editing print and digital curricular materials
  • Impeccable grasp of grammar rules
  • Familiarity with The Chicago Manual of Style, 18th ed.
  • Ability to apply established guidelines consistently
  • Familiarity with content management platforms, Google Suite, and Adobe
  • Working knowledge of elementary and middle school science products
  • Outstanding communication skills and experience working collaboratively with team members, including other copy editors, writers, reviewers, graphic designers, and managers
  • Experience with Amplify Classroom or Desmos
  • Experience copy editing science material for K–8 students
  • Ability to work with different authors and edit for different audiences
  • Ability to wordsmith (rewrite sentences) to improve tone and readability while preserving the original meaning
